I received the first letter from my mother ten days after my return. As always, she asked how I was, hoping for a speedy response. Often weeks went by before I found the energy to reply. The apathy children show their parents as they grow up is pure selfishness. I felt even guiltier for keeping her messages in a box on a shelf of my bookcase, as if it were keeping an eye on me.
