After the short Winter Solstice recess Mulan and her sister left to go to school again and did not return until the New Year, which came about a month later in February as it is reckoned in the West. They told none of their fellow students what they had gone through at home during the short holidays, but it was evident that to every girl the significant and interesting things happened outside and not at school.
