One advantage of living in my small town was that we didn't have to go very far for a vacation. Between swimming in the pond and picnicking in the forest, we had everything we needed close by. Luke spent the summer in town, too -- his parents couldn't close the bakery. People would have ended up buying their bread from the supermarket, and Luke's mom says that bad habits are very hard to break.

At the end of July, something really great happened: Luke got a little sister. It was pretty funny to see her wriggling around in her cradle. Luke wasn't really the same after his sister was born -- less carefree. He took his job as big brother seriously and often talked to me about what he'd do later in life. I would have liked to have a little sister or brother, too.
