The following spring, the Yaos moved into their new home. As no permanent arrangements had been made for the old house, Mr. Feng said he would stay there with his family. But he had at this time only two sons besides his daughter, Redjade, and the house proved too big for them. Since they would not think of renting part of it, Lifu's family was invited to come and stay with them. Paying rent was of course out of the question, since they had been paying no rent at the Guild, and the proposal was put to Lifu's mother rather as a favor to be sought from her. Since Mr. Yao would not rent it to strangers, would she and her family not come to help occupy the rooms? Mr. Feng went on to say that he was frequently absent on business trips to the south, and his wife would be afraid to keep the house all alone and the presence of Lifu would be a help. So Mrs. Kung and Lifu agreed and came to live there.
